7 Things You Can Do While Staying Home During The COVID-19 Pandemic

It is obvious the current Corona Virus (COVID-19) pandemic has thrown the world into a phase never imagined or planned for; however, our lives must continue despite the change.

The term “Lockdown” is a new vocabulary in our “new normal” which means staying at home to stay safe. Most young people have found themselves staying at home, out of school and away from friends, social events, and even the religious obligation of going to Church. The question we want to answer with this piece is: “How you can make the best use of the stay home period and even have fun while on it productively?” Now you have a choice during this period that we are all stuck at home and with a lot of freer time to either waste or you could choose to invest that time in doing something more productive.

I know most of you will be wondering what to do with the ton of spare time on your hands, knowing that things are gradually going back to normal and it will be great to set yourself up for success once the situation changes. Today we will be sharing with you seven things that you should be doing right now with your time, given all this spare time available to you to work on your personal development. If you do these seven things or some of them, you will come out on the other side of this so much further ahead in your personal development. So, let’s not waste any of this time that we’d have been gifted with, and let’s dive right into what these seven things that you could be doing right now while you are stuck at home.

Journaling

One of the first things that you could be doing with your time stuck at home is journaling. Let’s get to the heart of the matter. Buying a journal is the easy part. The real challenge lies in filling it up, and that’s what we want to deal with now: what should go into a journal if it is to have meaning and value in your life. Perhaps the best way to answer this question is to consider the purposes and functions of a journal. Once the matter of why we should write is clear, then what we should write will become immediately apparent. There are so many functions performed by a journal that I could conceivably spend hours discussing them. But since getting busy actually using your journal is more important we will only highlight some of its benefits such as capturing great ideas, organizing your thoughts, adequate planning, to mention a few.

“It is challenging to be a student of your own life, your own future, your own destiny. Don’t trust your memory. When you listen to something valuable, write it down. When you come across something important, write it down. Take the time to keep notes and to keep a journal.” – Jim Rohn

Learning a New Skillset

The next thing that you could be doing is learning a new skill. So many platforms amazingly are offering free classes, free courses on skills that you could be learning right now. Even if the skill that you want to learn isn’t necessarily free, I hope that you can invest in yourself during this time because when will you be able to have this amount of time again at home to learn a new skill. So, go learn something new, learn a skill that is valuable to you and this can be to learn some new hairstyles or to learn how to play an instrument, learning to blog, creative writing, or several other skills that may be of interest to you. I mean this can be practically anything you want it to be. But don’t waste this time by not learning something new.

Organizing your activities

The third thing that you could do is to improve on organizing yourself right – the one thing people tend to overlook because when we are busy with our normal life, we don’t have the time to stop and think about organizing our lives and everything that we have going on. So, this is my challenge to you now; during this time, get your activities better organized, be it your planner in your daily schedule or organizing your house and the structure of your day, your study plan, or academics. Still on organizing your life, right now is the perfect time to perfect your routines, use this time to create a morning routine that works for you. Do not let your day fall into autopilot because time flies and it is up to you to become the navigator, decide where your time is invested by organizing yourself adequately. Establishing a morning routine is going to set you up for success and what better time to do that than now when you are at home and you have room and time to make mistakes and to try different options.

“Time = Life, Therefore, waste your time and waste of your life, or master your time and master your life.” – Alan Lakein

“For every minute spent in organizing, an hour is earned.” – Harvey Mackay

Review Your 2020 Goals

Another thing I would recommend is that you review your 2020 goals. I have been doing this basically once a week during this Covid-19 crisis because so many of my goals – and I am sure you are in the same boat – kind of require life to be back to normal. However, there are so many goals that could still be achieved right now so that is another thing that you could be doing.

Read A Book

Another thing that you could do is to read a book. I recently just finished a book entitled: “The Richest Man Who Ever Lived” It was super impactful. It was cool for me, given my passion for personal development and self-transformation. I have some other books to suggest for you. My favorite personal development book of all time the Power of Positive Thinking by Dr. Norman Vincent Peale. If you haven’t read it, you should buy it ship it to your house because you will want a hard copy of this one. In addition, I will recommend that you should read some books that have to do with your interest.

Studying Your Scriptures

The sixth thing that you should be doing right now is studying your scriptures more. This one has been a huge one for me as I realized that in my busy everyday life, I let my scripture study just kind of slip a little bit and I haven’t really been studying as I should. Now, you have the time, don’t feel a rush to get out the door, now is the time to increase your scripture study and devote some of your day to be with God and to get that peace and reassurance that our lives and the fate of our country need. We need to place our nation during this Covid-19 pandemic in the hands of a loving God and we are going to be totally fine.

Start an Exercise Routine

A significant thing you should be doing every single day during this period is working out, taking time to start an exercise routine. I understand the gyms are closed, and I am also aware that some of you probably are not where you could maybe walk or run anymore. However, if you can get outside that is fine, but if not you can also develop a workout routine indoors. Because we have some homework out sessions of 30 minutes or more, depending on your level and fitness goals that can fit your plan while at home. I can assure you that if you work out if you can move your body if you can just exercise, it is not only going to help you manage your emotions and feel good during this period, but it is actually going to help you get to your goals. Every single one of us should have a fitness goal whether that is to lose weight, to maintain our fitness or to increase our endurance or strength. Those are things that you can be working on at home so check out some of those home workout sessions and get to it.

Those are seven recommendations on what you can do while you are stuck at home. I hope this helps. I know that we are in the weirdest of times. I have never experienced a pandemic, neither have I ever experienced the government directing us to stay home. So, we are here with you, we are going to get through this together; I just hope you know and understand that this time can be seen as a gift, a huge time of your life to improve your personal development and to work on yourself. So take the time although it is so tempting to keep watching Netflix and the television and just waste time.

I hope that you use this time to focus, to push yourself ahead because we are going to go through this period and life is going to return to normal. At that point, are you going to be the same person that entered the “Stay home” directive, or are you going to be somebody completely different somebody light years ahead of the person you used to be? This is totally up to you, so I hope that you use these seven tips. Please let us know which one of these tips that you like or actually leave me a suggestion on our social media handles on the right side of this post. Become the best version of yourself and stay safe.
